Vivid descriptions and enthralling characters
I loved the characters in this book. They were portrayed so well through their actions, I knew them quickly and well. The conversations flowed smoothly, with no jarring inconsistencies that might throw a reader out of the story. The world's descriptions were vivid and completely engrossing. I found myself excited to hear about the many kinds of magic, wanting to learn about it all IMMEDIATELY (didn't happen, by the way), and looked forward to every little hint about skills each person had.
I wanted to know more about the rituals within the culture, such as why there was a gap of centuries between some, and why human sacrifice was required to complete many.
I would feel comfortable recommending this book to anyone. It is well-written, and feels the way a fantasy should feel - thrilling, quick, a bit frightening in places, and always, always engrossing.
