The Kinder Poison is a book full of magical intrigue, politics, and a race between three heirs across a desert referred to as "the Crossing", and culminating in a human sacrifice. Crazy, right?!

I really enjoyed the the different castes within the magic systems, although sometimes I wish certain aspects had been more thoroughly explained. It was interesting in terms of the politics in the setting, just needed to be flushed out a little.

The characters in the Kinder Poision were well developed, likable, and left you with a definitive favorite to root for.

The heroine, Zahru, wants an enriching life just full of so much MORE than what she has been provided - or lacking. She is a clever and understanding girl, and was a very cool protagonist.

I felt bad that Zahru got caught up in the fued between the heirs in the race to ascend the throne, but it did provide her with a wildly entertaining adventure!
