I really liked this book! It's a 4/5 because I'm not, like, on the edge of my seat for the sequel, and I think it does have some flaws, but while reading I was surprised at how much I was enjoying it. I loved the characters and the writing; the way they all interact with each other just felt so natural and at times humorous. I just loved Zahru as the protagonist. For the most part the world-building was pretty great--descriptive but overly so. Immersive. Some really beautiful descriptions here and there.
This is the first book in a duology, and I've been reading the first part of so many new multi-part series recently that to be honest I'm starting to get sick of the cliffhanger endings, knowing I have to wait for the next book. I kind of wish I'd put off reading this until the second book was out.
