Wow!
Not since The Glass Castle have I read a memoir that was so unputdownable. •

In ‘Wild Game’, Adrienne Brodeur recounts her intense relationship with her mother, Malabar. On a summer night when Adrienne is fourteen, Malabar wakes her daughter to tell her that she has just been kissed by her husband’s best friend, Ben.
From there, she not only makes Adrienne her confidante in the affair, but inserts her daughter into the relationship to help them to sneak away and provide excuses for Malabar and Ben to be together. •
Brodeur’s beautifully and honestly written coming-of-age story shows the complexities of the mother-daughter bond. She writes with impressive empathy given her dramatic adolescence without expressing anger or bitterness towards her mother. Instead, the author managed to find so much positivity in her life and wrote a book that honors Malabar.

This fast paced book is heartfelt, painful and sometimes funny. It reads like a novel and like ‘The Glass Castle’ left me shaking my head in amazement on multiple levels. It also made me want to call my mom and thank her.
