This book was hard to get into. Just as you start getting into each scene, it's abruptly cut off to go into a memory, or general aside from the main character. It happened multiple times, and this is the very beginning of the book. While I understand the author is trying to give background and insight on the main character, we as readers aren't invested enough this early on to justify continually getting pivoted away from the initial scenes. I stopped reading once I got to a point where outdated and offensive language was used. I already wasn't enjoying it, so that gave me a good reason to stop without trying to push through to the end to see if my feelings on the writing would change.
