Sweetness but I can't read -- breaks my heart

Within the first few pages, my heart broke. I can't walk into an animal shelter without being in tears for days afterward. Though this story obviously has some sweetness, I fear that I would never recover from some of the sad parts! Tougher people would likely enjoy it.
