Considering the author is a CBS Sunday Morning correspondent, this story seems like one of those soft, sweet stories at the end of the program that really hits you in the heart but leaves you feeling better about humanity after all that depressing news you just sat through. It reads like one of those little snippet stories of finding light in terrible circumstances but it has been delved into on a more in-depth scale. The cover really captures the atmosphere and tone of the book as the story gives a very descriptive setting of walking around New York and the sights and sounds. The characterization of the dogs is very endearing and I can tell will be just as part of the heart of this story as the potential relationship of the humans in this excerpt.
