Intense dynamic between high schoolers!

There's a lot going on in this book - it starts with the abject poverty that the main character, Jack, and his younger brother experience with the suicide of their mother and imprisonment of their dad. Then Jack meets Ava in school and defends her against the school bully. It seems Ava has her own issues she's dealing with. This is intense and I can't wait to find out what happens!
