If one didn’t know it – this would be hard to call YA (young adult) fiction. It opens with the older of two (2) boys finding his mother hanging from a fan. The author is honest, brutal, and vivid in his descriptions of how the older child deals with his mother’s body.

The story seems compelling, but even as an adult this isn’t something I’d want to continue reading. Very dark beginning; and it isn’t something I’d want my child to read. As a child I wouldn’t have wanted to read it either.

Another trigger – depression and suicide.

The cover is gorgeous and the writing is excellent though.

This is a pass for me though.
