What Beauty There Is is brutal from the beginning, with spare prose that reflects Jack's quiet determination in the face of death and financial uncertainty. The book alternates between Ava and Jack, between first person and third, with the perspectives eventually aligning to describe the same event from two different angles. I'm immediately drawn to Jack's protective stance toward his little brother and to the implied relationship between Jack and Ava, who each seem to be navigating challenges far greater than most of their high school peers. Interested in reading more, for sure!
