M. WillIam Phelps does a great job painting a picture of the events surrounding Mary’s murder. The way he portrayed the characters I felt was very realistic. I felt as though I knew the Yoder’s. Not only does he absorb you into the story he doesn’t give everything away at once. It’s as if you are following along with the characters. As they learn things so do you. You are never given all the information at once. He will backtrack as the prosecutors learned more information and reveal it to the reader.
Phelps does a very good job explaining the medical side to things as well. I was never confused while reading this novel. He makes sure that even someone with zero medical background can understand all the terms and meanings being used throughout his writing. I appreciated this approach. It made this novel very reader friendly. I was able to focus on the story rather than try and understand what I was reading. I never had to stop and look up a medical term. I would recommend this book. It was slightly disheartening that something so tragic could be real but he paints a very good picture of what happened to the Yoder family and Katie. Gives you all the information so you can decided what you believe.
