I’ve never read anything nor even heard of M. William Phelps even though I’m a huge fan of true crime. This is one if my favorite genres but this book was underwhelming. While I did appreciate the short chapters and descriptiveness I’d the book it wasn’t my favorite. I did t like the choppiness and the constant switching of an inconsistent storyline. The book just had the chapters jumping around and while I loved how well-written it is the writing style just isn’t for me. I know plenty of people would love Phelps work but it wasn’t for me.
We started off with the perfect lifestyle being described and then it still stuck with that theme through even when the death and such was found and it didn’t give well with me. Mary was seemingly the perfect mother yet she shows little interest in her son or her other children. I wish we had elaborated more in them but I. The end it was still an okay book. Probably not something I’d read again but I’d still recommend it to be tried out for my other true crime lovers.
