This was an incredibly fast paced narrative non-fiction book. I really enjoyed the way the author captures tension. I found myself nervous throughout the book in spite of already knowing it was true crime. This story of a relationship gone wrong captures how scary humans can be. I enjoyed how well this author captures humans. You really start to get to know everyone he talks about. I found myself forgetting repeatedly that it wasn’t fiction. Even though I don’t often read true crime This will not be my last M. William Phelps book. While the story of Yoder was interesting, I found myself mostly captured by how well Phelp’s tackles such a horrifying topic. This was a great reminder that you never really know anyone. Phelps carefully weaves a story that shows exactly how little every person in Yoder’s life knew her. A must read for anyone who enjoys non fiction, but particularly true crime.
