The jacket cover sparks an immediate interest (pun intended) and the summary of the book sounded poignant and interesting.

Unfortunately, however, the story simply falls flat for me, despite the devastating subject matter. It seems as if the story is trying too hard to be current, hearkening to Brock Turner and the 2016 election. Ultimately, it seems overly fast-paced and does not evoke the emotion required for such a thought-provoking story.

Even as a polyglot, I found the interspersed Spanish sections to be distracting. Often, the sections were too long so I lose the meaning of what was being said. I found myself skipping over passages in an attempt to gain the meaning.

Overall, a great concept but not well executed.
