The topic of rape in this story is a heartbreakingly realistic aspect in our world, and the strong female character of Em Morales was not only aweing but also inspiring. Reading about her intense emotions and dialogue made me emotionally attached to these characters and I felt the same anger and bitterness Em felt. The parallel of Marguerite de Bressieux was certainly intriguing, I mean who wouldn't love to read about a medieval women slaying rapists on the battlefield? Both Em and Marguerite are legends, and it was refreshing to read about such powerful female MCs amidst a setting of entitled men.
