This book is amazing! I read it a while back and it still sits in my mind - rent free. The coming of age, father - son relationship, lost of sibling, first love etc just blew me away. I haven’t heard of the this author before reading this book, I had first thought. But turns out, I’ve seen her work in previous movie adaption for Let It Go. She definitely knows how to build characters and have multi fac and layers of human emotion. It was definitely one of my 2021 favorite books. Definitely the book has themes of self harm, relationship situations within immediate families, and first love. Even the secondary characters were lovely. My favorite part is that the storyline is set in a struggling bookstore run by the father and son. Even though the parents sort of fell apart from their parenting duties after the death of their first born, the second son becomes the parent.
