I had a lot of expectations when starting We Are Inevitable, mainly because I loved other Gayle Forman books like If I Stay and it’s sequel, Where She Went. I initially was drawn to this book because it was about a family owned and run bookstore, which is a dream of mine. But also I like the theme of loss and grief, how it shapes the characters. And that was prevalent throughout We Are Inevitable. Aaron, his mom, and Ira are all trying to continue their lives after losing Sandy to his addiction. They each processed differently.

There was also the theme of learning to understand that people aren’t just what you see. They all have things that affect their life and character, and they change and evolve because of their experiences.

All in all I liked the book. It had a little bit of romance, which I was hoping for more of. I also liked the book references throughout the story, like the chapter titles being book titles. I would definitely recommend this book.
