A Miss For Me

I usually like Gayle Forman's books, but We Are Inevitable was definitely a miss. The characters and plot were not engaging and the ending was abrupt. I was not even a fan of the cover art, as it felt more at home on a graphic novel than a YA book.

Overall, none of the characters came to life for me in a meaningful way. Aaron was a beat-down kid with no regard for anyone in his life. He had plenty of chances to stop and reflect on all that was going on around him, but he just could not get out of his own way. The only character I really liked was Chad, but his over-the-top optimism did not seem in keeping with the rest of the novel.

For the most part, We Are Inevitable seemed more like a wasted opportunity to tell a good story. Unlike her other novels, Gayle Forman spent too much time on background and not enough on really getting to the heart of the character's reasons for doing what he did.
