This book feels very different from the older books by this author I read. She has always written about dark subjects but this feels more mature and consequently even sadder. I enjoyed the depiction of the main character as a 'book person' and the hopeless tone felt genuine to me. But for this same reason I found the sample too depressing to want to continue reading. This will definitely appeal to a lot of people though.
