I had previously read Rose's book, "What Big Teeth" and while I found the book to be a huge let down with poor representation that continuously victimized gay men, I decided to try out Rose's second book as the premise was interesting and the cover drew me in. This book was worse. Not only did Rose continue to show poor representation of gay men, Rose also used this book to continuously mistreat Black characters as well. The book depicts police as violent toward women, but Rose sets up both Black characters to be framed for violence against the police and wrongly arrested and harrassed. White characters see the Black characters as expendable to protect themselves, and one Black character is depicted as a monster from birth while the other is used to ensure a violent white woman walks free after actually murdering cops. None of the white characters are ever held accountable or feel remorse for their actions.
