Oof. This had such potential and I was very excited to read/review this. And unfortunately I think it might be one of my least favorite books I've read this year. I hate to write anything negative but this just wasn't it for me. The magic system was confusing, and I never got a handle on any of it. The writing style and the plot was impossible to decipher I felt like I was lost the entire time I spend reading this chunk of a book. And it was SIMPLE stuff that I couldn't grasp because of the writing. This needs to go back to the editor for another run through. I also think this is an adult novel. I would rethink giving this a YA marketing push because the topics that are covered and how they are covered are really not suitable for teens. The cover is absolutely stunning and does a great job of convincing people to pick up this book, but unless you want to display the art I would give this a pass.
