Disappointed by the Pacing

The cover of this book is so beautiful, and it really made me want to read the book. It is a dark urban fantasy set in a city where magic is dying. Four queer young people are trying to find their place in the world, without realizing that they are fulfilling an old prophecy to bring magic back.

The story is meant to be told almost like an oral history to the author who is writing it down. The author really brings you into their world by the descriptive background of the city. The pacing was really slow for me for the first two thirds of the book, and I feel like all of the action really happened in the last third.

I really liked the four main characters, but I think it was a bit frustrating that it was hard to understand what role each of them played. I do love that they were all queer. There is also a very large cast of supporting characters that can get confusing if you don't write them down or have a character map.

I think I had more questions and felt confused by the book when I finished, leaving me unsatisfied.
