Reading the book blurb, I thought, “Not another YA fantasy series.” After reading the First Look, I was pleasantly surprised. The storyline pulled me in right away. The writing is well-balanced with good dialogue and fast-paced description that doesn’t slow down the plot. It feels like the author hit a sweet spot with a crossover of modern and historical periods.
