I really enjoyed the beginning of this book. The storyline is intriguing enough that once I got to the end, I was bereft that there was not more. The imagery was lovely and I got a great picture of how River City is built. I do have some questions about “new” be “old” city but again those would be solved by more pages. I am looking forward to learning more about the magic system but I loved how River City allowed Jesse to shine in her true self. I did wonder if there was some pronoun confusion at the end, but I believe this would be cleared up by whatever comes next.
