I will start by saying that I haven't read the other books in the series and didn't realize this was the third. Other than providing more background details, I don't believe that you need to read the first two in order to enjoy this book. Hester Thursby is a librarian at Harvard who gets involved in with the Matson family. She finds herself researching the family and discovering current and previous family secrets.

Each chapter is told from a different character's point of view which was a bit distracting to start. The chapters also ended on little cliff hangers which is what kept me reading. I did find it a little annoying after an entire book written that way but it was an interesting technique to keep the book moving forward. The characters were well developed and the story was interesting. Overall, I really liked Hester's quirkiness and the story.
