The first glimpse into Maxine's life had me hooked. As she's moving into her new condo, she is both uncertain but also confident in her decision, already imagining friends she hasn't met yet. Making plans in her head of how she will spend time with these new friends. I love the back and forth between Maxine and her over-protective brother. I love her inner thoughts, sometimes harsh but funny. I love how she tolerates her "boyfriend" and then dumps him, also harsh but funny! Her character, personality and thoughts feel very authentic, like someone I might know.
I was surprised by the "27 years later" segue but also intrigued to see how Maxine has changed or mostly how she's stayed the same, now a doctor, a bit older but still sassy.
I like the writing style and the smooth flow of thoughts and conversation. The little bit I read had me wanting more. Can't wait to read this book!
