I'm a fan of mysteries, but the writing at the beginning of this novel really turned me off. At times, it read more like old-fashioned YA (not that 'YA' is necessarily a bad thing at all, but the 27-year-old protagonist here sounded very...young). A lot of the phrasing turned me off and thus I couldn't get immersed enough in the story to care about the plot.
