Suspenseful Beginning

Edwin Hill accomplishes quite a bit in the first few chapters of "Watch Her". We meet Maxine, in 1997, as she's moving in to her new apartment, and, her new life, dumping her boyfriend Nate/Nathan that first night. You get the sense that Maxine is looking for adventure, and new "scene". To wit, "Maxine was done with nice".

Next, we meet Hester and her "family" - non-husband Morgan and niece Kate - as they attend an event honoring Thirty under 30 up and coming artists. I like the way Hill creates tension in several ways...Kate running off and Hester panicking a bit; Barrett who's dyed his hair and seems to covet a place on the dais; and we are left hanging when a young woman rushed the stage.

A promising beginning; I'd enjoy finding out what happens!

Thank you.
