Vagabonds is not a quick, action packed read. I actually found it a bit slow in the beginning but as I kept on, it drew me in and I was hooked on this journey that Luoying and the planet of Mars were taking. It was a fairly long read and was quite wordy at times. I did end up skimming a few paragraphs because it waxed to long on certain philosophies at times.

This was mostly the story of Luoying, a child of Mercury, so called because although she was born on Mars, she traveled to Earth with a group of other children to live there for several years. They were exposed to both cultures and so ended up not feeling like they fit in with either. This book has three parts, the homecoming where Luoying feels like she doesn't belong, the second part is her searching her past for the truth, and the third is her choice and determination of her future.

I was quite interested in all the descriptions of life on Mars, how they live in a glass city, the different things they have invented to help them live on the planet, and how they continue to change the planet so that it can better sustain humanity.

I did enjoy this book, but it is not a light read and it takes a bit to get through it. It is not a summer beach read but I think I would recommend it to people looking for a more serious book.
