This was a really unexpected and interesting book, and although it's not one that I would say I absolutely loved, it is definitely one that will stick with me and played with some really fascinating ideas.
I'm always excited to find new translated SFF, so seeing Hao Jingfang's Vagabonds really excited me! This was a very heavy book about Martians returning to their home after spending time on Earth, and the ideas and effects of this change bring about some interesting change in their own thoughts and ways of life. I really enjoyed how Jingfang explored this, though I did sometimes find that the method of storytelling was not the most approachable and I found myself having to re-read or slow down a bit to make sure I was following everything accurately. Despite that, I still loved exploring all the different ideas brought up by Jingfang, especially the dystopia-type elements that really play such a large role. This was a much darker/melancholy story than I expected it to be, but it worked really well with the story and I enjoyed it a lot!
