I got this book expecting to read about the planet Mars and how we had settled it from Earth. Then read about how there had been a war between Earth and Mars. Now both planets were still at odds with one another but they were negotiating. They story started out that way and you were introduced to Laoying.
The story never stayed with one character enough to have a clear focus and there was information given and details that I felt were irrelevant. The book was 600 pages and at least 200 pages were unimportant and slowed down the narrative really badly. If the story had been told from just Laoying's point of view throughout the story and they would have told more about Mars and the way Martian society works it would have been a better story. I read the whole book but was disappointed.
