A quiet start, possibly due to the translation, which isn't stilted, but is quite formal. It remains to be seen how and why this will match the tone of the novel, but I am nevertheless intrigued. Especially of interest were the people from various Earth nations--I'll be interested to see how they are portrayed and how their interactions continue.
