As a contemporary reader, I'm always looking for new books to help me branch out into new genres, and I was intrigued by the premise of Vagabonds. I've read two other novels with a heavy focus on Mars (The Martian by Andy Weir and The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury) so I was interested to see what new element Hao Jingfang would bring to the table. The cover, while vibrant, didn't really draw me in, but the descriptive writing style kept me reading. There were tiny tidbits of information that kept me wondering how, if at all, this would tie into the plot of the story. Not my usual style, but definitely interesting.
