This book is one of the best auto-biographies I've read. Mae Bunseng Taing recounts his experiences surviving the Khmer Rouge and the Cambodian genocide. This book is filled with the heart-breaking realities of trying to survive when the whole world gets changed in a matter of days. I loved reading about Taing's experiences, and I appreciate how honest he was about the events that took place. His experience is unique to him, but through it I came to understand many aspects of the genocide that I hadn't heard of before. This book should live with "First They Killed My Father" as one of the best accounts of the Cambodian genocide. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys auto-biographies that read like a novel. I would also encourage everyone who isn't familiar with the Cambodian genocide to please read this book or another that can inform you of the atrocities that happened there.
