First off, I feel like I have to say that I admire the Taing family for putting this book together and sharing this story with the world. This is a hard story to read and I can't imagine how hard it must have been to write this story and relive all that pain and trauma, and then to share that experience with your child, wow just wow. I admire and respect the authors for sharing their story and being brave enough to open themselves up to the public by publishing it. I would strongly recommend that anyone who likes to read survival stories and stories that show the determination of people in unspeakable conditions read this book.
This was such an eye opening book for me as I went into with almost no prior knowledge of the 1970's Cambodian genocide history and all that it entailed. I would strongly recommend doing some prior research to make sure that you won't be traumatized while reading as it is not an easy read.
