I have been eyeing this book for a while and hope to read it. As an educator, teaching about genocides is important as preserving history. In class, I usually teach First They Killed My Father, my only source of text for understanding everyday people's experiences of the Cambodian genocide. From the beginning, when I read the preview of the book, I was struck by the author's connection to Singapore, a country where I grew up and spent my pre-teens. Having had taught Cambodian genocide for years at my university, this book has stood out to me ever since I saw that there would be an opportunity to enter the raffle for it on Bookishfirst. I understand, too, that I need to catch up on my reviews here. Last semester was my first full-time semester, and thus I was overwhelmed with teaching, advising, and working on my first book contract. However, I am back now and hope to catch up on the books this year.
