Under the Naga Tail is a the story of Mae Bunseng Taing, co-written by his son James Taing, and told in Mae's voice. The opening chapter felt like reading an oral history. I found it a little confusing, likely due to my own ignorance of Cambodia's history, royal line, geography, etc. The family tree, map, and background on the legend of the Nagas (multi-headed serpents) will all be very helpful for reference when reading this memoir. This testimony of survival and escape from Pol Pot's Khmer Rouge will be an important addition to literature about the Cambodian genocide.
