Natalie is a cop just like her dad was and what she always wanted to be. The book starts with her and sister and niece going to the cemetery to visit their sisters grave. It was the anniversary of her death.
Natalie went early so she could clean the area of graffiti that the local kids decorated the stone with. Her niece was the first to “ update” her aunt on the last year. At 15 she was full of sarcastic comments. After they all made their updates the mom got a call from her ex-husband and walked away for some privacy.
The niece then asks Natalie about being in a coven. Natalie told her that her friends did that got scared and left it.
Later Natalie meets up at the bar for her update with fellow cops.
One is excited about being a daddy finally after years of trying. He drank too much so Natalie drove him home. They arrived to find the wife lying in a pool of blood. So next? This is where the preview ends.
