Natalie Lockhart is a rookie detective whose main assignment is a cold case involving the death of nine homeless people. Her hometown is a place shadowed by a past incidence of the burning of three suspected witches and witch craft is rampant among the teenage girls living in the town. On the anniversary of her sister’s brutal murder 20 years before, Natalie is faced with another murder, the equally brutal murder of her second sister’s best friend. As Natalie sifts through different suspects with their evasions and coverups, she begins to realize the extent of evil in her town. There is a lot of repetition in this novel and occasionally it is slow reading but the ending is surprising, it’s a twist I didn’t see coming
