A new name in detective based thrillers
Witchcraft, murder, and small town secrets all come together in this book about a place called Burning Lake. It's up to Detective Natalie Lockhart to uncover it all.
This was a very well written book. I loved Natalie and her tragic family. I feel it added depth to her character and I could easily see why her life panned out as it did. All of the characters felt very real, though. I especially liked Luke and Natalie's chemistry.
Some things were a little over explained for my taste. I'm much more of a "show, don't tell" kind of reader, though. Even so, it didn't really detract from the book as a whole. The creepy atmosphere and the depth of the characters easily overshadowed any complaints I had.
In all, a really good thriller! This is one of those few books where I didn't have the ending all figured out, which is always a huge positive for me!
