Initially Trace of Evil starts a little slow because readers are treated to a lot of information regarding the historical town of Burning Lake who is infamous for a witch trial back in the 1700s. The dabbling of witchcraft is still ever present especially with the teens of the town. It has become a right of passage to create a coven. I love how the witchcraft theme adds a super creepy vibe to the story. A few times I had chills run down my spine.
The investigation into the death of Daisy Buckner and the cold case investigation of the Missing Nine that Natalie canvases is so very thorough. Pieces of the investigation are laid out including various theories. Readers will feel as if they too are investigating the cases.
