Looking at the cover, I was expecting an atmospheric historical fiction novel, but this book has all that and more! The elements of fantasy and promise of romance really take this over the top for me. I love seeing strong women in historical novels because so often you associate history with the lack of women's rights. The magic, power, and authority possessed by the main character, even when hidden, makes this a refreshing historical read.
