Grabbed--and held! My first impression is that something eerie is about to happen...again. Tension is building, with masterful writing that offers colorful, clear pictures of the characters and the times and places where the actions happen.
There's enough background to make the reader care about the characters, but one is not burdened with lots of exposition.
