Although I did not read the first Jane Hawk novel, the beginning chapters of this book started to hook me in. I am not a fan of this type of novel - about government conspiracy and such - but you can tell that Koontz is a fantastic novelist. He slowly reveals more and more information to you, in a way that drags you into the plot line. The suspense slowly builds and you become easily satisfied with the information that gets introduced to you. This may not be my favorite genre, but I want to know what happens to Cora and her little Dixie Belle!
