Having known about the various "cults" throughout history: Jim Jones,David Koresh, Heaven's Gate - this reminds me of such a cult. If that is what the author was going for - she got it. While intrigued by The Handmaid's Tale (I've seen the movie with Natasha Richardson), that is slightly different from this book (in that Handmaid's Tale is set in a future ravaged by war). Because of the cult-like tone, my interest stops right there. I apologize to the author, but once you research Jim Jones, you soon lose fascination with the subject.

The only intriguing part of this was one of the places named is a place I pass when traveling between California and Nevada. After reading this first look, I'm going to pass.
