I understand that this society is a cult and that it is supposed to not be fair as it seems very dystopian and Miriam is probably going to buck the system, etc, etc. However, it still just made my skin crawl at the sexism that was going on. I am sure that is probably what the author was going for but I still had a hard time swallowing this bitter pill of a story.
