Great story building and pacing. Miriam is an interesting character and her innocence pulls me in and captures my sympathy. I connected with her immediately, and wished I could warn her of the unsettling cult she unknowingly was born into. Caleb may have stolen my heart even more. I love his strength and certainty.
The biblical names in the story are unsettling--feeling so unnatural. Rather than being comforting or spiritual, they are evidence that this is an eerie cult. And Daniel is even more proof of that. Yuck.
I love the cover art--which is very telling. Miriam is a square peg that refuses to fit into the round hole. (And possibly Caleb is too.)
