Dark and creepy, this book will leave you haunted.

Charlie Crabtree was a troubled teenager. Twenty-five years ago, he committed such a dark and gruesome, ritualistic murder that it resulted in copycats for years to come.

Paul Adams remembers this all too well. Charlie and his victim had been his friends. What he remembers most was that Charlie was never found, disappearing after the murder. Now Paul’s mother is ill, and he must return to the place that holds his darkest memories. Paul’s mother insists there is something in the house and that Paul should never have come back.

The author uses a blend of current day and past to tell this story. Seeing the murders through the eyes of Paul as a teenager made this story that much more eerie. North’s characters are so dynamic it’s easy to get lost in this story.

Everything about this book is dark and haunting; Charlie Crabtree, the woods called “The Shadows,” and the new series of events that Paul is experiencing. The story builds tension and suspense all the way through to the conclusion even throwing out a huge twist I did not see coming. I can’t wait to see what Alex North writes next.
