Alex North rocked the #suspense readers world with his debut #TheWhisperMan in 2019 and this summer he’s back with his new release #TheShadows .

This cover alone will spook some away from picking this one up but #readers take note because this story did NOT scare me at all.

A group of boys (reminiscent of The Chalkman) are thrown together as outsiders. Paul is suspicious of his new friend Charlie Crabtree and all does not end well with the group. Flash forward 25 years later and past will not stay in the past. Where did Charlie disappear to? Why was he never seen again?

While I found The Whisper Man chilling and edge of your seat page turner, I found The Shadows a little too familiar and a little messy. Unfortunately, I don’t think I’ll remember much of this story by next week. It just doesn’t have the staying power for me. The ending also left me unsatisfied.

I’m going to pass this one off as a sophomore slump because I think Alex North has a great future as a writer. I will definitely tune in for what’s next.
