First of all, I hate when I lucid dream because those dreams are usually creepy and made up of "bad" things. So the very idea of this book had my palms sweating. The last 1/3 of the book definitely had some spine chilling tension and I had to remind myself that this was a book and I would be ok. LOL

Overall, The Shadows is a well thought out book about a young boy, Charlie, who is an evil bully. The timeline of the story switches between past and present, slowly building up the structure of the murder that took place 25 years earlier. I really liked the aspect of the urban legend theme and how people spook themselves out when the belief of those stories overruns reality; usually, the end result is actually something more realistic and very explainable.

Alex North does a good job of creating twists in the story-line that keep the reader guessing who the murderer was. The Shadows maintains a steady, creepy thriller quality throughout that holds the reader's interest and crafts a story that is psychologically eerie.

Thank you to BookishFirst and Celadon Books for an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
